Stena Line to move from Stranraer
Today Dumfries and Galloway council gave it’s backing to Stena Line for a HEO or Harbour Empowerment Order, wish is comparable to a mini act of parliament, granting authority for managing a harbour and its area on land and sea. Although the HEO has been granted, this is the beginning of the consultation period and the Scottish Government has the final say if the harbour gets the go ahead or not.
The benefits to Stena Line of moving are clear, in that they would be able to cut journey times for passengers as well as reducing costs by using less fuel on the shorter journeys. As this move will benefit the environment, Stena Line and would also allow re-development work to begin in Stranraer it is likely that this plan will be given the go ahead over the coming months.
