Douglas Harbour passengers increase
The Department of Transport released figures showing that passenger numbers travelling through Douglas harbour had increased in January. In 2008 17,932 passengers travelled but in January 2009 those numbers were up to 18,467 which is an increase of 2.9%.
2008 figures showed that the number of vehicles using ferries was down my more than 20,000 on the 2007 figures. Given the current economic situation any rise can only be seen as good news and the harbours Captain Mr Michael Brew is hoping that new crafts which are due to begin being used in May 2009 will generate more traffic and as they are faster and have more capacity, this should all lead to more business for the companies.
