There are many tourist attraction relating to the Battle of Caen and the Battle of Normandy which seen most of Caen destroyed in 1944, these include the castle, abbeys and museums. There are also the botanical gardens to keep visitors occupied for hours. Caen is connected by motorway to both Paris and Brittany, and its airport provides link to the UK, Spain, Germany, Morocco and Tunisia in the summer months. The port itself is called Ouistreham and lies at the mouth of the Caen Canal; a shuttle bus runs during the day from the ferry terminal to the town for foot passengers.
