Ferry from Tangier to Algeciras
A short crossing that is run by two ferry operators; Balearia and Acciona Trasmediterranea. This relatively short route has four crossing per week with Balearia and three per week with Acciona Trasmediterranea.
With Balearia, expect a journey time on the sea to last around an hour. Travelling with Acciona Trasmediterranea will take longer at around two and a half hours.
In recent years Algeciras has become a significant tourist destination in the past it was primarily a transport hub and an industrial city. However tourism has flourished, with popular day trips to Tarifa to see bird migrations; excursions to Gibraltar, to see the territory’s unusual sights and culture; and to the Bay of Gibraltar on whale watching excursions.
Nearby, you will find the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, which boasts a population of animals, (some endangered) over 380,000. The area has been populated for tens of thousands of years. This is attested by the presence of archaeological remnants of settlements by Neanderthals dating back more than thirty thousand years, as well as stone implements, engravings, and cave paintings from both the Paleolithic and Neolithic ages. Of the greatest interest to visitors, however, are the Bronze Age cave dwellings that dot the area.
