Genoa - Local Attractions

Genoa is an important seaport in northern Italy, situated between the Ligurian Sea and the Apennine Mountains. The city itself is full of beautiful architecture from the city’s long history, which dates back to Etruscan times.   In particular the World Heritage Site, Via Garibaldi, is a must-see. This district in the old city was built in the 16th century to house the palaces of the city’s most powerful families, including the Palazzo Rosso, which is now a museum.   Other important sites include the Opera, the Palace of the Doges, and the house where Christopher Columbus may have been born.

Genoa is ideally placed for exploring the north of Italy.  Fashion capital Milan and historic Verona can be accessed by the motorway system and it makes an excellent base for exploring the region of Liguria. The Mediterranean coast of France is also easily accessible and the views along the coast road are some of the best the region has to offer.
